Sam is the youngest of 7 children from a family that loved music and hi-fidelity gear. Sam was just 15 when he bought his first McIntosh Receiver and Dual CS 510 turntable with money earned mowing lawns each summer. A year later, after working various summer jobs in Lancaster Pa, Sam added a Tandberg TDC 320 Cassette Deck and a pair of AR 11 speakers to his system. To those who know Sam, the rest is history. Throughout high school and college his enthusiasm for high fidelity grew. Sam garnered all the audio knowledge he could find, reading all the mainstream and underground audio magazines he could obtain. Sam’s idea of a fun Saturday afternoon was visiting 3 – 4 Audio stores a day just to compare and contrast stereo equipment.
After receiving his BA in Political Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1985, Sam entered into the US Army and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in US Army Military Intelligence. His love of Audio continued even while deploying to various hot-spots around the world, or while assigned to military bases in Europe and Asia. Everywhere he has gone or lived Sam is known for his love of audio systems and his vast collection of vintage audio. Sam has personally advised or assisted over 50 colleagues and friends in the purchase of their audio systems. Best of all, in each case he donated his time and expertise to assist them simply because he wanted them to be happy with their entry into the world of High End Audio.
After 23 years of serving our country, Sam hung up his Army uniform in 2008 and replaced it with a suit and tie to work within the defense industry. Sam now does Operational Planning and Assessments for the Naval Warfare Development Command at Norfolk Naval Station, Norfolk Virginia. But most who know Sam will tell you Audio is his first passion and he continues to expand his knowledge of all things high end audio. He regularly attends Audio Shows in the USA, Europe and Asia. It was there that Sam got the idea to do this in home Audio Open House with the intent of sharing his love of vintage and antique audio, and feature his vendors products that Sam has in his personal collection. Sam has purchased gear or had restoration work done by each of the vendors that attended the show.
Sam’s enthusiasm for music and audio is contagious. Friends joke that when they visit his home for dinner, they go home happily on a full stomach and with a vintage audio system. Most recently, Sam sponsored two very successful Audio Show in his home, (2011 and 2015) featuring Sound of the Wood™ Turntables as well as vintage McIntosh, Fisher and Acoustic Research components. Sam will be continuing this effort with future show dates and venues to be announced in the near future.
